Description
These LATEX Isolation Sheaths are made from high quality natural Latex rubber with a stretchability of up to 500% and a wall thickness of only 0.15mm. These sheaths are very tear resistant with excellent memory.
They allow fabrication of a laminated socket to begin while the plaster model is still wet. It may be necessary to pull a layer of cast stockinette under the Latex Sheath to allow any trapped air to escape (trapped air will expand when heated and cause bubble effects on the inner surface of the socket wall).
When laminating with EpoxAcryl resin, a PVA bag must be used over the isolation sheath after it is pulled over the wet plaster model (latex will be affected by the high exothermic temperature).
Recommended for pulling over a stump sock, liner or cast stockinette when draping rigid or flexible plastic sockets. The Latex sheath prevents the plastic from sticking and also produces a smooth finish to the inner surface of the socket and prevents reject drapes.
When draping with plastic and using a spacer sock with a Latex Isolation Sheath pulled over, it may be necessary to make tiny pin pricks through the Latex all over the cast, but especially around the seating area, where the plastic needs to be drawn in the most, which will allow the inner and outer vacuum to work together. If applied over a cast stocking, tiny holes will be necessary to form an airway for the vacuum, to bleed through, to prevent any trapped air from expanding and causing blisters in the plastic.
May also be used when making plaster casts of unhealed residual limbs.
The maximum service temperature is 125° C
The Sheaths are subjected to a chlorination process which renders the Latex free of any extractable protein and then coated with Talc powder.
