Safety is the nuts and bolts of leg amputees – the prosthesis must be able to adhere to the leg reliably while being comfortable and avoiding pressure points. The connection between the stump and the prosthesis is provided by liners, a type of stocking that is pulled over the stump. Although the liner serves it’s purpose, there is often the problem of sweat accumulation causing skin problems and discomfort.
The SoftSkin Air Liner is the world’s first breathable Silicone Liner. Special micropores in the silicone transport moisture (sweat) away from the skin through the liner wall. As moisture and perspiration is drained away from the stump, skin irritations, moisture accumulation and unwanted slipping out can be avoided. The results are drier skin and a lower temperature inside the liner. The additional effect is a better adhesion between the skin and the silicone to increase safety for the amputee.
It is not only patients with sweating issues that benefit from the features of the SoftSkin Air Liners. Air trapped inside the liner escapes through the micropores reducing the risk of blisters.
As well as this, the very durable and progressive textile cover provides constant compression over the entire length of the residual limb. The special mesh structure at the distal end minimises elongation of the liner, making it unnecessary for the SoftSkin Air Liners to have additional reinforcements (matrix) inside the silicone.

The SoftskinAir® in live test.
In a test setup the functionality of the breathable silicone liner SoftSkin Air® can be demonstrated in a live test. Micropores prevent even minimal perspiration – the removal of sweat to the outside becomes visible.
The SoftSkinAir Liners are available in 3 Shore hardnesses, in BK and AK versions and now with a Sports Liner.
