Complimenting Ortholam’s genuine Epox-Acryl high performance laminating resin is our range of carbon and light weight fiberglass braided biaxial sleeving, woven cloth and biaxial tape, designed to decrease mass and fabrication lay up time of laminations whilst increasing strength and rigidity.
The braided and woven products are specially treated to enhance resin absorption and adhesion. The braids unique +/- 45 degree fiber orientation and architecture, best understood as “Chinese finger trap”, offers natural conformability taking on the exact shape of the part it is reinforcing. The conformability of a biaxial braid eliminates the need for cutting and stitching and reduces the number of layers required compared to composites made with woven or knitted fabric.
Braided laminates provide increased interlaminate strength, damage tolerance and the propensity to delaminate is reduced dramatically. These materials provide increased part performance, decreased manufacturing time and a more cost effective solution to practitioner’s laminating needs.
The outcome is a seamless socket that has exceptional strength both longitudinally and circumferentially with the braid’s fiber angle contributing to the socket’s good torsional strength and a lower swingweight for the patient.
Hybrid layups combining carbon and glass are also desirable in certain instances.
